What is Airplay?

Apple AirPlay allows you to stream high quality uncompressed audio wirelessly around your home whilst connected to a Wi-Fi network. AirPlay allows you to enjoy your entire iTunes library (on a Mac/PC) and songs from the Music App (on an iOS device) in any room at any time. All iOS Apps are AirPlay enabled, so you can listen to internet radio (e.g Spotify, blinkbox, TuneIn) and send the audio from YouTube videos direct to your AirPlay enabled SmartSpeaker.

Picture the scenario where by you have one speaker in your bedroom, one in the kitchen, and one in the living room. For the ultimate sonic panorama, you can stream your music from iTunes (on a Mac/PC) to more than one room simultaneously, so you’ll never lose the beat, no matter where you are in the house. Just select “Multiple Speakers” from the AirPlay menu in iTunes (on a Mac/PC). AirPlay works when connected to a Wi-Fi network, and enables you to stream music wirelessly to the distance your Wi-Fi network extends to. If you have an iOS Device, you do not need to download any extra software or buy any extra hardware to listen to your music on the SmartSpeaker. AirPlay is built into the Apps on your iOS device so you just need to look for the AirPlay icon, and tap it to connect to a SmartSpeaker, it’s that simple! iOS 7 made it even easier to find the AirPlay icon by including it on the Control Center, which you can access from any app by simply swiping up from the bottom of the screen.

Advantages of AirPlay

The average Bluetooth devices are only able to transmit audio to a maximum range of 15 feet. However AirPlay devices extend to the distance of your Wi-Fi network that is substantially further.

Even while streaming audio from your iOS device, you can still access emails, Facebook , browse the internet and play games.

High quality uncompressed sound is streamed to an AirPlay enabled SmartSpeaker. Unlike Bluetooth, the audio from a SmartSpeaker is an identical transmission of all digital tracks.

When streaming audio from iTunes on a Mac or PC you can use your iOS device as a remote to control song selection and volume for each SmartSpeaker.

iOS Devices

AirPlay technology is already built into your iPhone, iPad, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPod touch so no additional equipment is necessary when streaming audio to a SmartSpeaker, thus allowing you to have complete control of your music playlist in the palm of your hand. When any SmartSpeaker is switched on it is visible to every iOS device connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Apple’s own Music app and the Apple Music service seamlessly stream all of your music to the SmartSpeaker with AirPlay, and you can also enjoy listening to high resolution audio through a SmartSpeaker from thousands of other apps including Spotify, YouTube, Google Play Music, Sky Go, BBC iPlayer, Audible and TuneIn Radio located on your iOS device.
